Currituck County 4-H is thrilled to announce the launch of our exciting "Plant Power" workshops, offering eight dynamic sessions designed to ignite the imaginations of young scientists  aged 5-18. This highly interactive program provides a unique opportunity for 4-H youth to dive into the world of plant, food and business science. These workshops will be held at NC Cooperative Extension-Currituck County Center from 10am-12pm on the following dates:

November 27, 2024

December 11, 2024

January 15th & 29th, 2025

February 12th & 26th, 2025

March 12th & 26th, 2025

This engaging series combines hands-on learning with practical skills to inspire youth in plant science, entrepreneurship, and foods and nutrition. Participants will explore the science behind plants, develop entrepreneurial skills through agricultural ventures, and learn about healthy eating and food preparation.

  1. Plant Science Exploration

    • Learn the basics of plant biology, growth, and care.

    • Conduct experiments on soil, water, and light effects on plant health.

    • Practice growing plants using various methods, such as container gardening and hydroponics.

  2. Entrepreneurship in Agriculture & Horticulture

    • Discover opportunities in agriculture-based businesses.

    • Develop a business plan for a small agricultural project, such as selling herbs, microgreens, or handmade plant-based products.

    • Practice marketing and financial literacy skills tailored to agricultural and horticultural entrepreneurship.

  3. Foods and Nutrition

    • Explore the journey of food from farm to table.

    • Learn how to prepare nutritious meals using homegrown or locally sourced ingredients.

    • Understand the nutritional value of different foods and how they contribute to overall health.

This workshop series fosters creativity, critical thinking, and practical life skills, empowering participants to make informed decisions about health, agriculture/horticulture, and business opportunities. By blending science, entrepreneurship, and nutrition, the program encourages sustainable practices and innovation in food and agriculture.
